Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
Where logging occurs and disturbance is not too destructive, occasionally Nothofagus spp. can be found in secondary or logged forests. However, where impacts are too destructive, grasslands and secondary forest may develop. The present trend for Nothofagus forest is to be reduced in area, through conversion to other land uses (Beehler and Marshall 2012). In addition, according to Ash et al. (2009), between 1972 and 2002, a net 15% of Papua New Guinea’s tropical forests were cleared and 8.8% were degraded through logging. In addition, since 1972, 13% of upper montane forests have also been lost. It seems the main threats to this species is fire, conversion of forest to other land uses, and potentially logging for timber.
