Threats to oak forests in the region include clearing of forest for large-scale agriculture projects, corn, citrus fruits and coffee plantations, logging and intensive exploitation of forest resources, road expansions, spread of invasive grasses, increasing human settlements caused by urbanization and tourism (Valero et al. 2001). It is not known how these threats affect the population of this species, which grows on steep cliffs and high bluffs, among the oak forest.

There are no known conservation measures specifically for this species and it is not currently known to occur within the protected areas network. Surveys should be conducted at the type locality and on neighbouring cliffs and high bluffs to determine the current range and size of the population. The biology and ecology of the taxon should be studied. Samples of seed of the species should be collected and stored as an ex situ conservation measure.
