Forests of Java and Sumatra are overall under threat (WWF 2019). Over 32% of the tree cover within the extent of occurrence (EOO) was lost between 2000 and 2018 (GFW 2019).

Individuals of this species has been found in protected areas such as Gunung Halimun - Salak National Park, Gunung Gede - Pangrango National Park and Gunung Sago Malintang Nature Recreation Park (Protected Planet 2019, ZRC 2019). It is not known whether the other collections were made in protected areas or not. It has not been recorded by BGCI (2019) to be grown ex situ.
