The actual population size is unknown, but the species is considered relatively common in Mesilau, Mount Kinabalu (Lamb et al. 2013). The decline in habitat quality suggests that there is a negative population trend.

Forests of Borneo are under continuous threat of being logged and the land converted to e.g. palm oil plantations (WWF 2019). Between 2000 and 2017, around 18% of the tree cover was lost within the extent of occurrence (EOO) (GFW 2019).
