Crop cultivation within potential habitat has increased in Zambia (e.g. Roberts, 1988, Wetlands International, 2009). Coupled with this is increased utilization of water resources from wetland habitats in the species' range (von der Heyden 2004) which may impact the area, extent and quality of habitats of Scleria polyrrhiza. Google Earth imagery (Google Earth 2020) shows quite extensive habitat transformation at the two known locations, especially the eastern one, although some of the swampy river valleys appear less severely impacted.
