There is no information on population size or trends in this species. Most herbarium specimens were collected between 1915 and 1970, the most recent collection was made in 1995 from de Odzala-Kokoua National Park in the Republic of Congo.

This species occurs in three protected areas within is distribution range. In the Odzala-Kokoua National Park (Republic of Congo), and in the Kundelungu National Park and Ngiri-Tumba Maindombe National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Ngiri-Tumba Maindombe is a Ramsar site, designated as a wetland of international importance (UNEP-WCMC & IUCN 2020).
