Description complète des menacesExpert
The main threat being faced by Saribus merrillii is the continuing decline on its population as well as quality of habitat. This is supported by the recorded 69,210 hectares of tree cover loss from its range in just 17 years (2001 to 2018) (GFW 2019). This excessive loss can be attributed to both small-scale and large-scale commercial logging, illegal cutting, and industrial mining in the provinces of the type localities (Walpole 2019).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
The species is present in a protected area (Amro River Protected Landscape) and various identified Philippine Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) which are top priority conservation areas both of the species' population and its natural habitat. However, the lack of strict protection mechanism as proven by the recent decline in forest cover suggests continuous threat to its population. Currently, Saribus merrillii was known only to be cultivated in Makiling Botanic Gardens at the College of Forestry and Natural Resources, Laguna (Fernando et al. 2009).
