État de la populationExpert
In 1979 the population comprised 31 mature individuals (Winkelman 1979), but in 2018 this had declined to 25 mature individuals (de Freitas et al. 2019).

Description complète des menacesExpert
Very limited recruitment of seedlings into more mature palms—likely due to herbivore pressure—suggests that the population will continue to decline without intervention (de Freitas et al. 2019).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
Local experts from Bonaire are working with the island government and land managers to develop a conservation plan which will include fencing and excluding herbivores from the site. Seedlings are in cultivation at Tera Barra Native Garden (Bonaire) and at Montgomery Botanical Center (USA).

Research is needed on the phenology of the species and on seed dispersal, plus monitoring of seedling recruitment is required.
