Description complète des menacesExpert
The main threat to this species is habitat modification and destruction due to agricultural practices, which include drainage, run off of sediments and water pollution associated to the use of fertilizers and pesticides, especially increased salinity. In recent years some of the known localities have changed their condition or been lost, especially in endorheic temporary pools, as they fill up with sediments and fertilizers from adjacent agricultural areas.

Also in a global context, the higher frequency and severity of droughts caused by climate change would be a significant threat, which is projected to reduce water bodies flooding periods during consecutive years, threatening the survival of some subpopulations.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert

This species occurs in several protected areas (IUCN and UNEP-WCMC 2017). It is listed as DD in the Andalusian Red List of Vascular Flora (Cabezudo et al. 2005). It is considered extinct in the Llibre vermell de les plantes vasculars endèmiques i amenaçades de Catalunya (Sáez et al. 2010).

Habitat protection and control of agricultural activities through management are needed. Additional research in order to better understand the species´ distribution in North Africa, and increase the knowledge on threats, population and reproductive biology are recommended.
