The plant is considered to be very 'rare' with very localised subpopulations, and currently only known from three adjacent records. As far as population size is concerned, there is a single population in two small groups containing around 40 mature individuals in total. The population trend is decreasing at this site, and the number of mature individuals and the population density are very low (Rankou et al. 2015).

The species and its habitats are declining due to numerous anthropogenic threats. It is especially threatened by overgrazing and trampling by livestock, agricultural intensification, habitat fragmentation and deterioration of the surrounding environments due to demographic pressures, and deforestation of the neighbouring mountains which increases soil erosion (Rankou et al. 2015).
