Many large subpopulations are known for this widespread species; however, the population trend is declining as a result of the impact of local threats such as urban development and competition with invasive plants.

There are no major threats for this species at the global level. Local threats include habitat modification due to urban development related to tourism and recreational activities, competition with the invasive Carpobrotus edulis, and agriculture intensification. It is sensitive to eutrophication but it can cope with trampling.

This plant is present in several protected areas throughout its distribution range (IUCN and UNEP-WCMC 2017). It has been assessed as Least Concern at national level in France (UICN France et al. 2012), and in the regions of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Languedoc (Noble et al. 2015). More research is needed on the distribution, population size and trends, and threats on its global distribution range.
