The species grows in Mount Lebanon in the districts of Baabda, Metn and Keserwan. The species was historically reported from Beit Meri, Boouchriye, Broummana, Ras el-Metn, Deir el-Harf, Dhour Choueir, Bikfaya, Mayrouba and Zahlé’s mountain pass (Mouterde 1966). The species was also reported from Aaraya (Tohmé and Tohmé 2014), Mansourieh (H. El Zein pers. comm. 2020) and Beqaatet Kenaan (R. Maalouf pers. comm. 2024). During the past 30 years, some of the subpopulations located in the lower Metn District have been considerably reduced because of habitat destruction due to urban sprawl, namely Baouchriye, Beit Meri, Bikfaya, Broummana, Deir el-Qalaa, and Mansourieh. Significant parts of the subpopulations of Aintoura, Mayrouba and Zahlé’s pass (Sannine) are estimated to have been destroyed by the extensive creation of quarries. The number of subpopulations is undergoing continuing decline.

Habitat has been lost and degraded as a result of urbanisation, a trend that is expected to greatly accelerate in the near future. Quarries have destroyed large parts of the subpopulations of Aintoura, Mayrouba and Sannine.

Former records of this species from northern Israel (Mt. Carmel and the Galilee) have been reassigned to R. tempskyana, however, the relationship between this species and R. petrana in southern Jordan still requires confirmation (O. Fragman-Sapir pers. comm. 2024).
Genetic diversity is likely to be lost as a result of population declines and the loss of subpopulations. Monitoring of habitats and populations is required, as well as habitat protection.
