État de la populationExpert
Although precise data on the current population trend is not available, there is evidence that some subpopulations have been lost due to competition with the invasive Carpobrotus spp., notably the subpopulation at the Cap de St. Pierre.

Description complète des menacesExpert
The main threats to this species are competition with the invasive species Carpobrotus and Pittosporum spp., erosion due to recreational use and urbanization of its habitat in the littoral zone, small fires, and pollution from discharge of nutrient-rich wastewater (Demonty 2011).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
Much of the population falls within the Zone Naturelle d’Interet Ecologique, Faunistique et Floristique Cap de Saint-Tropez (Bellan-Santini et al. 2017). At the regional level, this species is classed as CR B2ab(iii) in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (Noble et al. 2015).

Regarding ex-situ conservation measures in place for this species, the plant´s seeds are maintained in the seed bank of the Botanical Conservatory National Mediterranean De Porquerolles (Demonty, Dixon and Fort 2014), where there are also six bulbs in cultivation; no vegetative reproduction has been observed (Demonty 2011). Its storage appears to be successful with 100% germination after four years (Demonty 2011).

Following Demonty (2011), the recommended action plan includes raising public awareness, developing controls on public access to areas above the beach by marking paths, developing controls on the release of invasive species, monitoring populations, additional research into the ecology and risk of hybridisation with R. columnae and, potentially, the purchase of important stretches of the littoral for their protection.
