État de la populationExpert

The plant is very rare, very local, and uncommon. There is a single known population containing around 50 mature individuals, and the population trend is inferred to be declining due to the known threats (Rankou et al. 2013).

Description complète des menacesExpert

The species and its habitats are inferred to be declining due to numerous anthropogenic threats. It is especially threatened by overgrazing and trampling by livestock, agricultural intensification, habitat fragmentation and deterioration of the surrounding environments due to demographic pressures, and deforestation of the neighbouring mountains which increases soil erosion (Rhazi and Grillas 2010, Rankou et al. 2015).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert

Its conservation assessment and Red List category are included in Rankou et al. (2015). It is not present in protected areas (IUCN and UNEP-WCMC 2017), and there are no conservation measures in place for this species. Site protection is the main recommended action, including legal protection and associated enforcement measures to protect its habitat from overgrazing, habitat fragmentation and deterioration, and deforestation. More research on its distribution, population and threats is recommended. Additionally, to afforest the mountains neighbouring the site, monitor the population dynamics and raise public awareness would be also beneficial.
