The major threat to this species appears to human activities in the Virunga National Park in DRC, and this National Park is currently threatened by oil exploration activities (WWF 2016). Eighty five percent of the Park has been awarded to an oil company for oil exploration (see: www.savevirtunga.com, WWF 2016). We can infer that this Raphia palm is threatened by habitat degradation as a result of this information, although the intensity of this threat is not currently known.
