There are no major threats to this species across its large distribution range, although it is locally threatened by habitat loss due to logging (M. Cheek pers. comm. 2016).

This palm is well represented inside protected areas, occurring in four National Parks: the Campo Ma'an and Bakossi Mountains National Parks (Cameroon), Los Altos de Nsork National Park (Equatorial Guinea) and the Cross River National Park (Nigeria). This species is also found in at least one ex situ conservation collection (BGCI 2016).
