Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
Huasteca Alta Hidalguense, the region that covers most of Quercus hirtifolia's range, is known for extensive livestock farming which in conjunction with population density and roads are considered the greatest threats to Q. hirtifolia, followed by agriculture, conflicts over land ownership, drought and climate change (CONABIO 2010). In one study the cloud forests of the Sierra Madre Oriental, where Q. hirtifolia is found, is projected to lose 45% of its range by 2080 due to climate change. Although this does not relate to a direct 1:1 loss in population size for Q. hirtifolia it will impact the habitat quality and will have negative consequences for Q. hirtifolia (Ponce-Reyes 2012). There is also illegal selective logging in places where there is primary cloud forest (CONABIO 2010).
