État de la populationExpert
There has been no quantitative analysis conducted for the population of Q. geminata, over its entire range. However, because of its wide distribution, as well as its dominance and abundance in scrubby flatwood communities throughout the vast majority of Florida, it is assumed that this species population is great in numbers. Additionally, Menges et al. conducted a study that documented vegetation change in south-central peninsular Florida over 20 years. They found an increased relative importance and presence of Q. geminata in these communities, during both periods of sampling from 1969-1979 and 1979-1989. They state, "Increases in evergreen oaks, especially Q. geminata, in southern ridge sandhill and scrubby flatwoods created a subcanopy oak layer...[Additionally,] evergreen Quercus species (especially Q. geminata) were still advancing into the tree layers of southern ridge sandhill and scrubby flatwoods" (Menges et al. 1993). This serves as a potential indicator of an established and abundant Q. geminata presence throughout its range.
