Quercus flocculenta

Quercus flocculenta is threatened by the logging of timber species in its habitat, as it causes habitat degradation, as well as human induced fires. Quercus flocculenta is found near the growing urban area of Monterrey, where urban expansion and land use change threatens Q. flocculenta's natural habitat.  Much of Q. flocculenta's habitat is located on private properties, although this often means that the individuals in those populations are protected from harvesting, but it also implies they cannot be accessed for collecting or monitoring the population size (J. Encina pers. comm. 2017).

Quercus flocculenta is found in the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park. It is considered a priority region and an important area for bird conservation because of its vicinity to El Taray reserve (a parrot reserve in the mountains in the east). Much of Q. flocculenta's habitat is located on private properties, although this often means that the individuals in those populations are protected from harvesting, but it also implies they cannot be accessed for collecting or monitoring the population size (J. Encina pers. comm. 2017). There are currently no ex situ collections for Q. flocculenta (BGCI 2017).
