État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
This Quercus has a limited distribution. No information exists on its population density, but it is abundant in the few places where it occurs. In fact, it is considered to be a weed by many foresters and farmers (Oldfield and Eastwood 2007). It is a dominant species in regeneration zones in the chaparrals of Chihuahua, which are slowly replacing Pine forests due to disturbance (Quiñónez Martínez et al. 2008).
Natureserve considers the species Vulnerable (G3) due to its restriction to the highest elevations in the Davis Mountains of west Texas and the mountains of Chihuahua, Durango, and Zacatecas in northern Mexico (2006).
