Canyon Oak is not perceived as declining throughout the majority of its natural range. Due to the species primary occurrence on mountain slopes and canyons within public lands, there is only minimal pressure from development. However, where fuel loads are high, fire may cause local extirpation. But this species does boast one of the highest reported see regeneration rates among western oaks (Tollefsen 2008).
