Quercus bidoupensis is a new species, only known from a few individuals from one or several very close localities. As the species is currently only known from one site, the population is estimated to be less than 50 individuals.

There is little known information regarding the threats to this species. As the species has a restricted distribution, it is likely threatened by habitat destruction and land changes, even though at current, the few individuals known are all residing in a National Park.
