Description complète des menacesExpert
The montane rain forest in Chiapas, Mexico has been subject to continuous human disturbance, mainly by wood extraction, cattle grazing and fire. Most of the original Tropical Cloud Forests have been reduced to small isolated fragments. Common human activities include firewood and timber extraction and extensive livestock grazing on hillsides. More recently many areas of Cloud Forest have been converted into coffee plantations (Ramírez-Marcial 2003). Although there is little information on the threats to areas in Central America where Quercus benthamii is found cloud forests are the vegetation type which is most threatened by climate change in this area.
