Quercus bambusifolia is a species of oak distributed in fragmented and limited locations. It has a population of at least 1,138 in Hong Kong alone (Zeng and Fischer 2020) and so it is estimated that the total population is more than 2,000.

The species is threatened by restricted distribution and habitat destruction. This species occurs in natural forest areas on Hainan province which is threatened by habitat destruction. A 2015 study by Zhai et al. found that Hainan province has seen a loss in natural forest area and an increase in rubber plantation area from 1995 to 2005. The study noted that the trend occurred in protected areas as well. The loss of natural forest and increase in area for rubber plantations leads to habitat destruction and fragmentation for species that rely on natural forest habitat. Therefore, it is assumed that similar threats may be faced across the rest of the species' range, due to its utilisation of natural forests which may be targeted for agricultural conversion.
Quercus bambusifolia is severely fragmented throughout its range. One study by Zeng and Fisher (2020) notes that the species occurs in fragmented forests in Hong Kong. This fragmentation caused genetic bottleneck in the region and left very few remaining, but genetically diverse, individuals. As the seeds are not dispersed well between subpopulations and wind pollination is not effective enough to allow for genetic exchange between populations, hands on management will be necessary to maintain the health of populations, at least for those in Hong Kong.

Quercus bambusifolia exists in at least one ex situ collection globally (BGCI 2020). The species also exists in protected areas in the wild in Hong Kong according to an article by Zeng and Fisher (2020). It is recommended by Zeng and Fisher that populations of Q. bambusifolia affected by severe fragmentation can potentially be preserved and restored by planting different genotypes within subpopulations and, where appropriate, reintroducing native seed dispersal animals.
