Quercus aristata is listed among the dominant oak species of humid montane oak forests in western Mexico (Kappelle 2006). Based on currently available information, it is difficult to evaluate the population size of Q. aristata with much certainty, but it does not appear to be facing a dire population size reduction at the present time (though more information could prove otherwise).

Little information is available on the impact of specific threats to Quercus aristata, but it is likely to be affected by the clearing of forests and habitat destruction that are ongoing throughout the forests of Mexico. Agriculture, livestock grazing, timber and firewood extraction, and increasing development are likely to impact the habitat of this species. Such anthropogenic disturbances have been implicated in disrupting the forest structure and floristic composition of the humid montane forests of western Mexico, of which Q. aristata is an important component (Kappelle 2006).
