The species is inferred to be under threat from logging and smallholder farming which is common in Normanby island. This currently only affects one locality. In the future logging and climate change could emerge as threats to this palm on both Normanby and Rossel islands, therefore, additional monitoring and survey is needed to provide more information on this.
