According to the occurrences available, there are four subpopulations, of which three are in the north of Madagascar and one from the centre. There is a lack of numerical population information and further research is necessary, but it is suspected that the population is in decline due to ongoing threats.

Subpopulations are threatened by habitat loss due to fire (wildfire, uncontrolled fire, slash and burn) even though some subpopulations are inside a protected area (Goodman et al. 2018).

In the framework of in situ conservation, two subpopulations have been reported within the protected area of Tsaratanana Strict Nature Reserve. No ex situ conservation has been registered. Living collection and seed banking are recommended for this species. Further research into the population status of the species is also required, as well as an evaluation of the threats in action and their severity.
