Major threats to this taxon include direct competition by non-native plants such as Clidemia hirta, Cyperus haspan, Hedychium coronarianum, Hedychium gardnerianum, Miconia calvescens, Paspalum conjugatum, Pterolepis glomerata,  Rhynchospora caduca, Rubus rosifolius, Spathodea campanulata, and Tibouchina herbacea. Predation and habitat degradation by non-native animals, particularly pigs, goats, rats and slugs are also major threats. This taxon is vulnerable to stochastic disturbance events such as landslides and hurricanes.
