Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
Major threats to this taxon include direct competition by invasive non-native plants such as Ageratina riparia, Ageratum conyzoides, Andropogon glomeratus, Andropogon virginicus, Axonopus fissifolius, Buddleia asiatica, Clidemia hirta, Cyperus meyenianus, Ehrharta stipoides, Erechtites valerianifolia, Erigeron karvinskianus, Hedychium gardnerianum, Kalanchoe pinnata, Lantana camara, Melinis minutiflora, Paspalum conjugatum, Rubus argutus, Rubus rosifolius, Sacciolepis indica, and Sphaeropteris cooperi. Predation and habitat degradation by non-native animals, particularly pigs, goats, rats, slugs are also a major threat. This taxon is vulnerable to stochastic disturbance events such as landslides and hurricanes. In addition, Fortini et al. (2013) characterized this taxon with high to extremely high expected vulnerability to climate change (vulnerability indicator 0.89).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
The taxon is listed as Endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act and by the State of Hawaiʻi. Field botanists of the National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) have made seed collections over the years. Collections from several different populations are represented in NTBG's McBryde and Limahuli gardens as ex situ living collections on Kauaʻi. Several plants are in a living collection at Waimea Valley Botanical Garden on Oʻahu. Seeds cannot be stored conventionally (cannot be dried and cooled). Outplantings in the wild have not yet occurred.
