État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
In 2019, nine individuals of Pinanga urdanetensis were recorded by Pro-Seeds Development Association, Inc. at Tampakan, south Cotabato. Its population size, however, remains uncertain due to lack of research initiatives – which can be addressed by further surveys and documentation. The species is considered as severely fragmented as being found in four different mountain ranges, suggesting limited opportunity for genetic exchange between subpopulations. Even further future collection efforts are not thought to increase the chances of exchange between these localities. Moreover, its expected continuous population decline is attributed to subsequent forest losses within its provinces induced by commodity-driven deforestation, plantations, shifting agriculture, and urbanization.

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
Commodity-driven deforestation, plantations, shifting agriculture, and urbanization serve as major threats to the quality of habitat of Pinanga urdanetensis causing continuous loss of tree cover in the provinces (approximately 56,100 hectares since 2000 based on the analyzed data with Global Forest Watch).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
The species is not listed in the Philippine Red List and therefore not protected by law against illegal collection or extraction from the wild (DENR-BMB 2017). However, the population of the species is protected in situ because of its presence in declared protected areas (PAs) (Cabadbaran Watershed and Mt. Kalatungan Range Natural Park) and key biodiversity area (Mount Matutum Protected Landscape). Although these PAs are supported by law, conservation of the species' population is not guaranteed due to several threats which may cause rapid population decline. Thus, species-specific conservation programmes, including cultivation in botanic gardens for ex situ conservation are recommended to ensure its continuous survival.
