État de la populationExpert
To date, there is no available information on the population size of Pinanga sobolifera. Considering the restricted range of the species, it can be expected that it has a relatively small total population size, but further survey is needed to confirm this. The population is expected to experience future declines due to various degradation throughout the Sierra Madre and the Province of Quezon. These include prevalent illegal logging, and large-scale industrial mining - which are the primary contributors for the possible extinction of the species (Walpole 2007).

Description complète des menacesExpert
The main threat being faced by the species is the continuing decline in its quality of habitat due to continuing tree cover loss in its occurrence. Global Forest Watch Analysis from 2019 (GFW 2020) showed over 40,700 hectares of tree cover were lost from the native province of the species, between 2001 and 2018. These declines are considered to be continuing. This excessive loss may be attributed to large-scale commercial logging and industrial mining in the Province, including the ranges of Sierra Madre in Quezon (Walpole 2007).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
The species is listed in the DAO 2017-11 or the Updated National List of Threatened Species in the Philippines assessed as Endangered (DENR 2017). Through this administrative order pursuant to Republic Act no. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001, illegal and excessive tampering of the species from its natural habitats, together with other species specified therein, are inhibited. Its unauthorized utilization, trade, and disturbances made in its natural habitats are punishable by law. Aside from this, no other known conservation strategies are directed for the species. As a result, there is a need for in situ and ex situ conservation. The species occurs in various identified Philippine Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), which are top priority conservation areas both of the species' population and its natural habitat, namely, Mts. Irid-angilo and in Mt. Binuang.
