État de la populationExpert
Pinanga rigida is known only from its type locality in Cuernos Mountains, Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. Due to its restricted geographic distribution range and availability of only few herbarium records, the species has most likely a small population size. However, this needs verification through further research and inventory. A decline in its population is suspected based on the documented tree cover loss in the province where the species is occurring.

Description complète des menacesExpert
The type locality of Pinanga rigida is now mostly covered by non-forest (2,460 hectares). The remaining natural forest in Dumaguete is 354 hectares. From 2001 to 2020, the province lost about 53 hectares of tree cover. This loss was brought mainly by urbanization (GFW 2020).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
Pinanga rigida is not listed in the Philippine Red List and therefore not protected by law against illegal collection or extraction from the wild (DENR-BMB 2017). The population of the species, however, is protected in situ because of its presence in Cuernos de Negros in Negros Island. Although this key biodiversity area (KBA) is supported by law, conservation of the species' population is not guaranteed due to several threats, which may cause rapid population decline if the activities will be pursued in the future. Thus, interventions to stop these operations are strongly recommended. Species introduction in botanic gardens for ex situ conservation is also suggested to ensure its continued survival.
