Commodity-driven deforestation, land conversion, shifting agriculture, and urbanization serve as major threats to the quality of habitat of Pinanga modesta causing a continuous loss of tree cover in the provinces (approximately 75,390 hectares since 2000 to 2020 based on the analysed data with Global Forest Watch).

The species is not included in the Philippine Red List (DENR-BMB 2017). Its occurrence in Siargao Island Protected Landscape and Seascape and Lake Lanao Watershed Reservation serves as in situ conservation of the species. In addition, it is known in at least one botanic garden globally as an ex situ collection (BGCI 2021). Further surveys and research are needed to measure for its remaining population size in the wild. This will help in creating a relevant conservation action plan.
