In 1998, the only known population of this species was reported to be decreasing (Keat 1998), though the drivers and extent of this decline are unknown. This species has not been recollected or knowingly observed in the wild since it was first recorded in 1997 and therefore it is not possible to know what the current state of the population is. Given the species may be within a protected area with no current ongoing habitat loss thought to be affecting it, it is unclear as to why the species could have been declining. Therefore, the current trend is unknown. No recent information on its population or any further collections have been made, indicating that it could be very rare or have a very small population size. Research to determine this and quantify the number of mature individuals in the population should be carried out.

Due to a lack of specificity in the locality description of the type specimen, there is some uncertainty as to exactly where the population is located. However, given the recorded elevation, it seems likely that it may occur within the borders of Khao Sok National Park and this has been supported by other authors (Keat 1998). Satellite imagery of the area where this species is assumed to occur shows extensive, undisturbed forest habitat (Google Earth 2023). However, threats from logging, plantations, soil erosion and unregulated tourism have still been identified as threats to the natural habitats of the park (Khao Sok National Park 2023). Given this species occurs at a relatively low elevation and close to settled and cultivated areas, it is likely to have increased vulnerability as generally lowland areas are the first to be affected by human activities. Though it should be considered as a potential plausible future threat should encroachment into the park increase, at present it does not seem that habitat loss is likely to be impacting this species. However, it was reported in 1998 that the population was decreasing (Keat 1998), though the reason for this is unknown. In order to fully understand whether this species is experiencing declines and for what reason, targeted surveys to the area are needed.

There are two ex situ collections of this species held by botanic gardens worldwide (BGCI 2023). The only known population is expected to fall within the boundaries of Khao Sok National Park (UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2023).
