The number of individuals of Phoenix caespitosa is not known, but the species is known to often form extensive thickets (Barrow 1998) and to be common at several sites (Hall et al. 2008). In Yemen, the palm has been reported to be locally abundant in coastal and inland marshes, as well as in wadis up to 2,000 m asl (El Mashjary et al. 2001).

There are no major threats to this species across its overall distribution range, although it may be locally threatened by gardening activities in Djibouti and by the development of road infrastructure in Yemen (Hall et al. 2008).
