Oreobolus kuekenthalii

Montane rainforests in the region are considered to be in a relatively stable and intact condition. They are currently under much fewer threats than the lowland forests. However, they are extremely fragile and sensitive to disturbance, especially in the upper montane and subalpine zones and threats to plant species are rising. Threats include: planned mining operations, large dams, road construction, conversion to agriculture and high-altitude timber plantations, shifting cultivation, rampant illegal logging, encroachment in protected areas and climate change. The resilience of this species to disturbances is unknown. The taxon is reported to not be at all floriferous and is likely to reproduce mostly vegetatively (Ridley 1915).

The taxon does seem to occur in protected areas in most of its range. It does not benefit from legal protection in Malaysia or Indonesia. It has a large range and is reported to be locally abundant. However, field surveys should be conducted to confirm the current range and estimate the population of the taxon and subpopulations should be regularly monitored as threats to plant species in the region are rising.
