État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
Oncosperma platyphyllum can be considered a rare species with a small population size due to its very restricted occurrence. It is inferred that the species' population will experience future decline as indicated by the 252 hectares tree cover loss in Sagay City and 6,770 hectares tree cover loss across the whole Negros Occidental Province over the last 17 years (2001 to 2018) based on 2019 Global Forest Watch Analysis.

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
The major threat of Oncosperma platyphyllum is the continuing tree cover loss in the Municipality of Sagay as well as the whole Province of Negros Occidental as supported by the latest Global Forest Watch Analysis where almost 7,000 hectares of loss in tree cover were recorded from 2001 to 2018. Shifting agriculture is one of the main drivers of this loss (GFW 2019). According to Estavillo et al. 2013, forest loss that leads to the decline of extent of habitat (including its quality) negatively affects the survival and dispersal of structured populations or metapopulations of a species, thus there is an expected decline to the O. platyphyllum's remaining population.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
The species was previously assessed as Vulnerable by Domingo Madulid in 1998 on the IUCN Red List. The species is included in the DAO 2017-11 or the Updated National List of Threatened Species in the Philippines where it is assessed as Endangered (DENR 2017). Through this administrative order pursuant to Republic Act no. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001 illegal and excessive tampering of the species from its natural habitats, together with other species specified therein, are inhibited. Its unauthorized utilization, trade, and disturbances made in its natural habitats are punishable by the law. There are no other known conservation strategies in place for the species. Thus, actions such as captive breeding, species reintroduction, and species recovery are some of the most essential measures in assuring the continuity of the species's survival. It is also recommended that there is additional survey of the area to verify the species distribution and any species specific threats.
