The uncertainty in population size can be addressed by further inventories and documentation. With the continuous effect of shifting agriculture, urbanization, commodity-driven deforestation, and the losses from the largely-managed forest areas, the population is generally considered to be declining.

The species is present in a few cultivation initiatives and in some arboreta but, despite this, it is still impacted by continuous tree cover loss across the country (Fernando et al. 2009). Evidence of this deforestation is supported by the latest Global Forest Watch analysis (2020) where almost 18,000 hectares of tree cover were lost from the species' localities in just 17 years (2001 to 2018). Primary drivers for forest loss include shifting agriculture, urbanization, commodity-driven deforestation, and the loss from largely-managed forests.

One locality is in Bulusan Volcano Natural Park, an officially-proclaimed protected area, therefore the species is considered protected in situ. Additionally, it is also present in various identified Philippine Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) including Victoria and Anepahan Ranges in Palawan, Quezon Protected Landscape, Ragay Gulf, and in Polillo Island. However, there is still anticipated to be a continuing decline in the habitat of these areas, therefore, stricter protection mechanisms are required. The only known ex situ conservation strategies for the species was the cultivation at Makiling Botanical Garden (MBG) in Laguna (Fernando et al 2009).
