More than 50% of the state of Amazonas is under protection and the population density remains very low, however, human impact has recently increased considerably in the region. The summits of all tepius above 800 m are designated conservation areas but this species is also recorded from lower altitudes (Sears 2013, specimen data). All commercial logging activities and mining activities have been legally banned in the Venezuelan Amazon but this prohibition lacks total support in some areas and some illegal activities may still be carried out. Gold and diamond mining have been noted on the lower slopes of some tepuis and increased tourism has brought additional problems of burning from escaped fires, trampling of vegetation and litter (Sears 2013). Extraction of adult plants from the wild for the horticulture trade have been shown to critically endanger populations of other saxicolous, narrow-range, endemic bromeliads of rock outcrops, in Brazil (Versieux and Wanderley 2007). However, it is not know whether this species is collected in the wild.

There are no known conservation measures specifically for this species, however, the species is known to occur within protected areas, such as in the Macizo Cuao Sipapo Forest Reserve. Venezuela has made great efforts in the last 20 years to build up an extensive and ambitious conservation program for the department of Amazonas but adequate management plans need to be implemented and coordinated with the various authorities and laws banning logging, mining and wildlife collections must be properly enforced. Further research and field work is recommended to establish the current population status of the species. Samples of seed should be collected and stored as an ex situ conservation measure.
