État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
In India, this species is very common in Manipur, Sikkim and West Bengal, and also in some parts of Mizoram (Joe et al. 2016). Given its relatively large range, and reported frequency, it is suspected that the population is large. However, no numerical population information is available, and the current population trend is unknown. Research into population status and trends is therefore recommended.

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
In areas of north-eastern India and Myanmar, deforestation and degradation of forest habitat is ongoing. Major drivers of this land use change are shifting cultivation (jhum), encroachment for grazing and timber extraction, and an increase in commercial agricultural plantations (Chatterjee 2008, GFW 2019). However, some areas within the range continue to provide pristine habitat: for example, in Bhutan, less than 1% of the country's tree cover was lost between 2001 and 2018 (GFW 2019).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
The genus Musa is listed in Annex I of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) which aims to guarantee sustainable agriculture and food security through the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture, as well as ensuring the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of their use (FAO 2009). Twenty three botanical gardens are listed as sites of ex situ conservation for this species (BGCI 2019), but no germplasm accessions are held (Ruas et al. 2017, Genesys Global Portal on Plant Genetic Resources 2019). This species has been collected from the 2,150.73 km2 Htamanthi Wildlife Sanctuary in Malaysia, and its range overlaps with other protected areas (Bachman et al. 2011, UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2019); it is unclear whether active management is practised in any of these areas. In a preliminary assessment, Joe et al. (2016) assessed M. sikkimensis as Least Concern.
