Deforestation has all but destroyed the hollock (Terminalia myriocarpia) and hollong (Dipterocarpus gracilis) forests unique to the region, within the Lohit district, habitat for Musa argentii. Trees were also cut down for the production of railway sleepers, illegal felling has also been a problem in the area (India Environmental Portal 1992). Forests are cut down burnt and land used for cultivation, this method is called "Jhum", during a five-year period between 1991-1993 about 70 km2 area of the forest was felled. Cash crops such as pineapple, walnut, ginger, turmeric, orange and jack fruit contribute to the deforestation, with farmers using the "Jhun" cultivation method (Bhatt et al. 2001).

The genus Musa is listed in Annex I of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) which aims to guarantee sustainable agriculture and food security through the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture, as well as ensuring the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of their use (FAO 2009).

This species' native distribution overlaps with one protected area in India, inferred using GeoCAT (Bachman et al. 2011) and so passive conservation is presumed in this area. However, there is no evidence of active management or monitoring of this species.
