État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
Little Information is available on the global population, as no population level studies are available to determine population size and trends. The species has been documented 18 times in the northeastern mountainous regions of Sierra Leone, and the remaining accounts exist within Cote d' Ivoire (two sightings), Nigeria (two sightings) and Cameroon (six sightings), as well as alleged but unsupported sightings in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Evidence for their persistence in Sierra Leone includes records dating from 1945 to 1965, while other countries report incidence of the species more recently, as late as 2001. Assuming these are subpopulations, due to the distance between observations, gene flow between such entities is unknown, though less likely between subpopulations in the east (Sierra Leone and Cote d'Ivoire) and those in the west (Nigeria, Cameroon) of the extent of occurrence. Being limited to growing in mountainous areas (see distribution) may inhibit connectivity between the western and eastern subpopulations.

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
Threats affecting the most documented Sierra Leone subpopulation fall under human activities – fires, hunting camps, logging, trails and agriculture. However, growing at high elevation, it may be less vulnerable to such pressures. Similarly, for growing on granitic rocks and not in association with dense forest canopies. Vegetation disturbance rarely exceeds 20%, and 10% at higher altitudes in the centre of the Loma mountain ranges. The species distribution remains unthreatened by large developments – the Bumbuna Reservoir being constructed east of the species distribution range should be sufficiently dislocated from the population. Similar anthropogenic threats habitually afflict other countries in the distribution, but likely have some unmeasured impact, especially considering that the human population of Sierra Leone is projected to grow considerably in the next few decades—imposing increasing pressure on natural resources—in particular due to a reliance on plant resources and habitat impact by agriculture and deforestation.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
There appears to be little or no enforcement or regulation of in the protected areas where the species occurs (Sierra Leone: Tingi Hills forest reserve, Loma Mountains No Hunting Forest Reserve; Nigeria: Cross-river Okwango and Yankari Natural Reserves). A lack of resources leaves these areas vulnerable to continuation of human activity. The seeds are not recorded to be stored by the Millenium Seed Bank or by any other gene bank.
