A common widespread species; it is possibly the most common of all Meistera species in northern Indochina.

The main threat is deforestation for expanding agriculture, however, numerous localities are within protected areas across its range.

The type collection locality is in a protected area - Mount Ba Vi National Park. Also occurs in many other protected areas e.g. Cuc Phuong National Park, Vu Quang National Park, Tam Dao National Park, and Xuan Son National Park (Viet Nam); Nakai-Nam Theun National Protected Area (Lao PDR); and Bai Yong Nature Reserve and Da Ming Shan Nature Reserve (China). The species is in ex situ cultivation in five botanical gardens (BGCI 2018).
