It is noted as relatively common on Mount Kinabalu and Mount Alab. There are, however, only a few available herbarium collections.

Forests of Borneo are under continuous threat of being logged and converted (WWF 2019). Around 17% of the tree cover within the extent of occurrence (EOO) was lost between 2000 and 2017 (GFW 2019). The habitat in the areas where this species has been recorded is, however, relatively intact.

This species has not been recorded by BGCI (2019) to be grown ex situ. The majority of the collections made of this species are likely to have been made in areas with a good tree cover and/or are under protection. It is e.g. known from Pulong Tau National Park, in which the species should be conserved (ZRC 2019, Protected Planet 2019).
