This species is known from two subpopulations, forming one large metapopulation. Original population estimates were ca. 50,000 but other assessments indicate that the population is smaller. Although no accurate count is available, the population is estimated here as 20,000 mature individuals.

According the site visits in 2020/ 2021 the site is heavily infested with Lantana camara. Although no studies have been taken on the impacts of the invasion, cycads in other areas where L. camara has invaded have experienced declines.
