Lithocarpus echinocarpus is known from one subpopulation in Viet Nam. The region has seen extensive deforestation (logging) and habitat conversion for agriculture (rubber, bananas), road construction and urbanization. The population size is unknown but if the species is still extant it is likely to be small.
