Lithocarpus chevalieri is known from one subpopulation consisting of several individuals in Hoang Lien National Park. The region has seen extensive deforestation (logging) and habitat conversion for urbanization (tourist development) and agriculture. Sites outside protected areas may no longer hold individuals of this species.
