État de la populationExpert

The species is reported to be abundant in its localities in Luzon however in other regions the species is more scarce (Soepadmo 1972). There is insufficient information to estimate the population size of the species, further research and study is needed. In 2019, Pro-Seeds Development Association, Inc. recorded three individuals of the species in Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya, while a total of 25 individuals were recorded from the two hectares sampling plots in Mt. Calavite Wildlife Sanctuary in Mindoro. There is an expected decline in population due to continuing shifting agriculture, urbanization, and commodity-driven deforestation from the native provinces of the species. This is supported by 517,660 hectares of tree cover losses in just 18 years (GFW 2020) within the range of the species.

Description complète des menacesExpert

Natural habitat loss is one of the main threats being faced by the species where expanding agricultural sites, urbanization, and uncontrolled logging activities are some of the major causes. This is supported by 2020 Global Forest Watch Analysis where 517,660 hectares of tree cover was lost from the range of the species from 2001 to 2018. This decline is continuing due to high statistics recorded until the past year. The species occurrence in some critical watersheds increases its vulnerability to population decline as these areas are increasingly subject to extensive human interventions which impair the overall capacity of the watershed in sheltering various endemic species. Some of these include Mounts Banahaw- San Cristobal Protected Landscape, Upper Agno River Basin Resource Reserve, and two other critical watersheds.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert

The natural occurrence of the species in some protected areas (PAs) offers protection to the species as these areas are supported by their respective implementing legislations under the National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 1992 against excessive and unauthorized degradation and utilization. These PAs include Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park, Balbalasang-Balbalan National Park, in Mt. Calavite Wildlife Sanctuary and in five other PAs throughout the country.

Additionally, the species was also found to be present in some identified Philippine Key Biodiversity Area (KBAs), which are in Mts. Irid-Angilo and Binuang, Bataan Natural Park and Subic Bay Forest Reserve, Mt. Makiling Forest Reserve and two other KBAs. Though these sites are not officially protected by any implementing legislations, they are considered as top priority conservation areas where site-scale conservation efforts would be the best means for species and habitat protections (FPE 2020).
