Lithocarpus brassii occurs in a number of subpopulations throughout Papua New Guinea. The species primarily occurs at high elevations that are less threatened by land-use change. However, the wider area has seen extensive logging, mining activities, seasonal burning and land conversion shifting agriculture. It is likely that some of these subpopulations outside protected areas no longer hold any individuals, but the overall trend is unknown.
