Lithocarpus auriculatus occurs in a number of subpopulations throughout Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam. The region has seen extensive deforestation (logging) and habitat conversion for agriculture (rubber, bananas), road construction and urbanization. The population is thought to be decreasing and some sites outside protected areas may no longer hold subpopulations of this species.
